Server training - Security for Alcohol serving establishment (Part 2)

Always have your staff ask the patron for compliance before your watchmen act. The opportunity for risk is the only control to prevent unwanted violence from occurring. Violence is always sudden and unexpected.  If you can predict violence you should have taken steps to prevent it. Reasonable care can be created by business associations, insurance companies, state law, city ordinance, and your business in your very house policy controls. All policy of care goes to prevent the opportunity harm. Cities all want premises to have control of the crowds at closing time and provide safe patron exit into. Police can hold nightclub accountable for the unwanted behavior of your patrons exiting into the general public.

The age of patrons, the type of music, the attitude of the DJ’s, the physical location of the club, the attitude of the employees toward patrons, the amount of staff awareness training and intervention training, create the opportunity for patron safety and public safety.  All staff interventions with patrons that could create possible danger are immediately communicated to managers or police. All Watchmen and security staff interventions are to (HAP) help, assist, and protect all patrons and staff from possible harm. Staff use of action words may create fear and alarm in poly-impaired confused patrons. Action words can create the opportunity for misunderstanding and the intent to do harm rather than protect the confused patron. “We are kicking you out.” May create the intent to be kicked, and the patron's response is, “I’m going to kill you.” Fighting Words can as dangerous as physical acts if creating fear, unrest, and opportunity for violence. All staff trained interventions are to address the needs of patrons and control their wants. SCABing (Staff must be checking patron at all times.) (Speech, Coordination, Appearance, and behavior) of every patron is on a continual and ongoing alcohol checking serving process. This SCABbing helps to provide patron security and safety. Server training creates the opportunity to educate patrons about safer alcohol drinking habits and behaviors.  Server training creates trust between servers and patrons that bring happy patrons back to your safer environments. The patron trust does create the opportunity for owners to make safer profits with safer money production. Patrons will pay more money for the emotional security of safer environments.  Society benefits from all patron’s making safety life choices and planning for safe transportation before drinking alcohol or doing any drugs.  Remember that all actions and inactions by staff are acts of the owner and city that gave them the license. Remember that the only thing that staff can ever control is done by staff education. Your house policy patron education and enforcement is the only opportunity for preventing unwanted patron risk-taking. Server training occurs when the young server develop a greater understanding of the duty of care is “to care”.  Employee’s attitude, customers feeling of entitlement, staff lack of caring for patrons/employees, lack of servers experience, the huge amount of social peer pressure to make illegal sales, and poly impairments of employees and patrons create a dangerous opportunity for social risking.

Employee’s immediate communication with patrons at entry has to be more 2-3 seconds when entering the nightclub premises.  Nightclubs should have two checks by one or two staff employees. One check is done by a well-trained employee checking of valid state/government issued approved legally issued identification. The carding employees are trained to recognize poly impaired patron actions by SCABing (checking Speech, Coordination, Appearance, and Behavior). All staff members are looking for poly impairments of patron’s attitude impairment, fatigue impairment, emotional impairment, psychological impairment, physiological impairment, legal drug impairment including “Alcohol”, illegal drug impairment, and mental illness impairment.  Remember there are many poly impairments that are associated with alcohol use like marijuana and legal/illegal drugs. You usually get sued for the possible alcohol misuse under dramshop and or for creating unsafe premises and allowing impaired patrons to cause injuries both on and off the premises of innocent people.

The employee’s immediate communication of observable patron risk-taking will help to reduce possible patron harm. The staff immediately addressing these unwanted disrespectful behaviors, (like patrons social space bullying of other patrons/staff and sexual harassment) are not allowed as acceptable social patron behaviors. Server training staff behaviors are trained to not worry about the loss of tips and immediately communicate any fear of possible aggression from the patrons. The privilege of drinking alcohol is given than earned by patrons. Training patrons as to what is acceptable behavior is a continual and ongoing process. The patrons will pay more to return to safe and secure premises. The key to alcohol serving establishments longevity is always going to be your effect on patron and community safety. Safety sells patron security. Remember problem drinkers return to bartenders and servers they trust. Staff is trained to give patrons respect, compassion, caring, and continual awareness that create tools for proactive and safe interventions. Staff caring and compassion to poly-impaired patrons will always help you when asking for patron compliance. The greatest aspect of town/city pubs is that patron’s involvement in developing the respect with community endearment for your social standing in their society. It is disrespectful in all society for your establishment to continually cause harm in the community. The change occurring is that younger patrons have a lack of person to person communication skills from talking on their phone not talking to other people. Millennial (women are as active or more active alcohol drinkers than men) and Generation Z (are drinking less spirit and beer, and wine, on the phone more preventing other fun socially,  less use of the family cars, and very inexperienced in how to enjoy and communicate verbally in life). Did you get my text? Some parents have found it easier to communicate with their kids by computers or phones. Self-safety training awareness creates less opportunity for self-harm, “Think before you start drinking alcohol and become poly-impaired.” Caring awareness creates self-respect and the prevention of the opportunity of self-harm.
